ROTARY CLUB STUPINIGI. THE ART, THE COUNTRY AND THE FLAVOURS

The day was perfect for an easy drive from the city, and Rotary Club Stupinigi, Turin, went here, in the hills close to Tortona for a promenade between  our country art and the genuine Flavours.  First step at the Cistercian Abbey of Rivalta, with a magnificent  icons exhibition and the Church, with splendid 15th-century frescoes.

The beauty of the hills in the spring was the frame of a typical lunch, at the restaurant, il Cascinotto, in Berzano, and the chef Roberto, that divides his own time in the kitchen or in the woods, seeking  the most smelling truffles, has cooked some genuine local tradition dish, with excellent cheeses and salted meats. In the afternoon Volpedo was the step, for a visit to the romantic studio of Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo and also in the square where the artist painted the famous opera “The Fourth Estate”, always with a social and modern meaning.

The last greetings were with wine and  Claudio Mariotto, a true vine grower,  with a tasting of Timorasso, the rare brilliant white wine, exclusive in the Tortona’s hills. It was just a simple day, but fully lived, in the grace of the fields and the beauty: then something that is truly astounding.
